May you find peace and know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Although it’s difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, May looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow.

Grand Valley School Levy

We need your help, on Nov 8th please VOTE yes for Issue #36.
OVERVIEW:
• Issue #36 is a new 5-year Emergency Operating Levy for the Grand Valley Local Schools.
• It will generate $655,000 per year which equals 3.9 mils.
• These funds will be used to pay for normal operating expenses of the district, including programs, support staff, textbooks, supplies, technology, utilities, fuel and services.
• If passed, collections from this levy will begin in January, 2012.
• It is less than the November, 2010 request of 4.9 mils.

HOW MUCH WILL THIS RAISE YOUR TAXES???
• Homeowners with property value $150,000 ~ your taxes would be raised about $180 year / $15 month / $0.50 day
• Homeowners with property value $250,000 ~ your taxes would be raised about $300 year / $25 month / $0.83 day is
• This is less then a cup of coffee a day.
IF this does NOT pass on Nov 8th then there will be MORE cuts to programs that help our children.
• Elimination of Elementary Specials ~ art, music & physical education.
• Elementary Family Intervention Specialist.
• Technology position.
• Middle School Education position.
• Middle School English position.
• 2 Support Staffs
• ALSO in lie of eliminating the extracurricular positions, the most probable solution will be to INCREASE the Pay to Participate fees again.
Since the failure of the November, 2010 request, the district has tightened it’s belt:
• All staff have agreed to a 0% salary adjustment for the next 2 years
• All staff now contribute toward their insurance premium
• Implementation of Pay to Participate
• Elimination of Freshman Sports
• Reduction of 11 Staff positions and 16 supplemental contracts
• Elimination After School Enrichment Programs
• Reduction of funds from the State cut away at current funding levels
• One-Time State Stimulus Funding sources will dry up after this year: $384,535 in FY 2010, $472,586 in FY 2011, $327,876 in FY 2012 and zero in FY 2013
• Elimination of Tangible Personal Property Tax reimbursement to the district by the State: $390,795 in FY 2011, $162,077 in FY 2012, $4,265 in FY 2013 and zero in FY 2014
• Over $1.2M in cuts have been made over the past 4 years, over $650,000 in the past year alone
• District officials reduced the millage on the bond issue in January, 2011 by 2 mils to reduce burden on the district taxpayers
• District officials are in the process of refunding (refinancing) the bonds for the construction of the new school over the remaining term of the debt and will save taxpayers over $1M over the next 13 years due to lower rates which will mean reduced millage in the future
• Buses are filled to capacity to reduce routes

Student Success
School districts rely on local support to create and maintain programs for their students. This comes in the form of PTO’s, Booster Groups, Community Groups and local taxpayers who provide the greatest finanicial support. We have relied on this support since Grand Valley’s inception in 1950 and have not received additional funds from any new operating levies since 1992-almost 20 years now. School District officials want to keep the programs and activities that currently exist in our school system. We need the support of our community.

FREE SPEGHETTI DINNER

FREE SPAGHETTI DINNER &
LEVY INFORMATION NIGHT

Vote Yes on Issue 36
WHEN: NOV 04, 2011
TIME: 5-7PM
WHERE: GRAND VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL

This is a FREE dinner for EVERYONE. Rather you have children or not in the school district we encourage you to please come to the dinner. Listen to what is being said about our school and the children’s future.
Mr. Nye will be available to answer questions and to discuss the levy.
We will also have a performance by the Show Choir

Special thanks to:
Karleen Wright for organizing the dinner &
Grand Valley Boosters, PTO’s, Staff, Administration & Community.
DID YOU KNOW: That due to cuts last year, some teachers now teach 2 different subjects or teach subjects they never had before and the class sizes are around 30 kids and teachers have a total of around 150? and that All staff have agreed to a 0% salary adjustment for the next 2 years and All staff now contribute toward their insurance premium ?
DID YOU KNOW: The last time district taxpayers had an increase in taxes for operating funds for the school was 1992? That is almost 20 years without an additional operating levy.

The game against Chalker was exciting for many reason. 1 of which was the fact that it was Parent’s Night and we got see each of the Seniors with their escorts from all of the Fall Sport teams. How exciting for all of out young generations, and as the parents and students were getting ready they were able to get a preview of a video that Josh had put together of action shots with of each of the seniors. (If you are interested in receiving one of these videos please contact Josh, they are FREE and limited to one per family. Additional ones can be purchased for $5.00 each.)

Click Photo above to View Pictures from the Game.

Then after the announcement of each senior we start our last home game of the season with Lake kicking to Chalker. Though after a couple plays Zaller intercepts a 32 yard pass meant for another Chalker receiver. Few more plays and we are on the board with our 1st touch down from Henson and Satterfield was a success with the extra point.

Couple plays later Lake interecepts a 24 yard pass from Chalker, Few more passes from AJ to the receivers then a final 43 yard pass to Lake and he runs in for a touchdown , kick is good and score is 15-0 and Then yes ANOTHER interception by AJ from a pass thrown by Chalker with the help of a hard tackle from Zaller we are at the end of 1st quarter.

AJ passes to Berkey touchdown and kick is good our score is rocking at 22-0. Crowd is excited!! We did have one mishap with AJ decides to keep the ball runs and drops it and it is recovered by Chalker though it didn’t get them far as that was the end of 1st half.

3rd quarter starts with Chalker having possession of the ball interception from Rockafellow. Then few more plays later we have AJ keeping the ball and runs 51 yards for a MUSTANGS touchdown bring our score to 28-0 and the kick is good and 29-0.

I have to say one great play tonight was the stiff arm from Rockafellow to a Chalker player and then he continues to run for 20 yards. Then pass from AJ to Rockafellow for 34 yards and yes we have another TOUCHDOWN~~~ with a good kick 42-0.

With like 2 minutes left in the game the seniors exit the field for their final time at home and there are hugs and then the kids take the coolers and dump it on Mr. Henson, that was a cold night I would not want to have been standing there wet to add. Orgavan is in does a QB keep and runs 51 yards, great job!!!

Best play of the night by far came with Joe Miller scoring his 1st touchdown!!! With a hand off from the QB he ran in their and did a great job, final touchdown on the final night of his Senior Year on Mustangs Field. Score ends at 48-0

Great job Mustangs, we are so proud of each and every one of you. You all are a great team and we will miss all of the Seniors. Good Luck to you all in the future no matter what it is you all decide to do!!! Our next game is against Matthews on Thursday at 7PM. GOOD LUCK BOYS!!!!

This weeks game was a wet and cold one but both Valley’s did great playing against each other with the cold mist that was falling upon us.

Game starts with Lake kicking off to PV, though we have a delayed kick and the ball doesn’t make it to far down the field. With PV’s first pass intended for their receiver met us for a interception. This was only 1 of very many interceptions throughout the game going back and forth. With the ball being so wet and hard to handle there were many fumbles as well. 1st quarter ends with no score on the board.

2nd quarter was much of the same as 1st quarter only we had a great pass from AJ to Berkey, Berkey catches the ball in the air flips over one of the PV guys trying to block him and is still holding the ball. What a awesome reception, Mitchell catches a ball from AJ runs in a 16 yard touchdown, one of many we scored tonight.

Next play was a classic, Kick to PV they catch, fumble recovered by GV Drenski. 1st play pass to Drenski who fumbles the ball and recovered by PV.

AJ intercepts a pass meant for PV and runs it 37 yards. Moodt then receives the ball runs 38 yards for a Mustangs 1st down. Satterfield then gets the balls and TOUCHDOWN!!
Moodt has the ball runs 31 yards for a Mustangs Touchdown with the help of Rockafellow blocking.

With the field being so slippery, the ball being fumbled numerous times we have a pile of kids on the ground and what is that that is in the middle of the field? Oh yes AJ’s shoe.

We have a awesome pass from AJ to Rockafellow whos runs it ifor about 40 yards, is grabbed by a PV blocker by the feet gets out of it and continues to run it in for a TOUCHDOWN!!! We have a 2 point conversion and it’s good!!

Our guys did so great tonight. Our record for the past 2 seasons against PV was 2009 GV 40 PV 6, 2010 GV 41 PV 7, Now 2011 GV 36 PV 6. It’s nice to see we are consistent with only allowing then to score 1 touchdown. Our defense did a great job today.

Final score 36-6. Next Friday be sure to come and cheer our boys on 7:00PM
Boys Varsity Football vs. Chalker High School (Parent’s Night)

First let me start by saying that the Mustangs did a awesome job under the lights on Friday night!!!

We started off with our Homecoming court being escorted down the track with their parents. Our 2011 Homecoming Queen is Emily Nye and our King is Justin MacCartney. Congratulations to both of you!!!

Kick off starts with Mustangs Rockafellow receiving and running the ball 39 yard down the field this was the start of a great game with Mustangs AJ Henson scoring our 1st touchdown of the evening and Mitchell kicking the extra point that brought us to a 7-0 start in the 1st quarter.

Gilmore received the balls a couple great hits and blocking by the Mustangs and we keep them from scoring.

AJ has the balls, runs it down the field gets hit tosses the ball to Berkey who is able to make it a few yards. That is what I call great team work guys!!! We have the end of 1st quarter.

2nd quarter starts and AJ runs the ball for 42 yards, next play pass to Sirrine who pretty much just walked the ball in for our 2nd touchdown, though our extra point was no good score is 13-0.

Hey Man! Give me a Skittle!

Mustangs again on Offense and AJ runs the ball in for a touchdown, he had a lot of help with some great blocks by the Mustangs and brings our score to 19-0 Lake’s try for the extra point it’s good!! 20-0.

With the end of the 2nd quarter coming close Mustangs have possession of the ball again and we have a pass from AJ to Lake for 33 yard and 1st down Mustangs, Next great pass AJ to Berkey for 29 yards and we have another Mustangs 1st down we are now 1st and goal and AJ to Satterfield TOUCHDOWN!!! and extra point great with 1:14 min left in the 1st half score is now 27-0.
Gilmore has the ball throws it and is intercepted by Berkey. With a 20 yard reception from AJ-Rockafellow, then another 5 yards from AJ-Lake and a touchdown with a great kick and end of 1st half score is 34-0.

Awesome 1st half Mustangs you guys did great. I also want to say great job to the Gilmore Cheerleaders coming over and cheering for us and wishing us luck, you all did a great job today.

Awesome half time show my our own Mustangs Band and the 8th grade band also joined in and did a great show and dance. Great performance.

3rd quarter Adam Moodt score our final touchdown of the evening and our final score was 41-0.

Our boys did great, be sure to attend our game at home Friday night against PV and enjoy some wonderful Chili for our Chili Cook off. GOOD JOB MUSTANGS!!!

What a chilly night Friday as we sat in the Falcons stadium for their Homecoming game against the Mustangs. Mustangs side was packed and it was so great to see so many people attend the away game. Though walking half a mile to our cars wasn’t all that fun.

Click the Image Above to See Images From The Game

Game starts and lots of cheers coming from the stadium, 1st quarter though didn’t prove to be a good one as neither team got any points though the Falcons did fumble with Mustangs recovering.
2nd quarter was great, lots of passes from Henson to Lake, though some flags were thrown against the Falcons. We get to 3rd down and a pass from AJ is intercepted by a Falcons player after a couple plays the Falcons score 1st. Mustangs receive the ball and with only 53 seconds left in the 1st half we score YEAHHHHHH!!!! we go for the 2 point conversion and we are caught short final score at half time 7-6.
Great half time show by both the bands tonight, good job..
Game starts back and Mustangs Drenski makes it into the end zone for a 2nd Mustangs touchdown.
Falcons take possession of the ball few plays in and they score their 2nd touchdown of the night but the extra point was blocked.
With only 1:34 seconds left Mustangs have the ball the crowd is going wild on both sides we are on our way to our final touchdown to win the game. AJ passes the ball down the field to Mitchell, intercepted by a Falcons player and they retain the ball. Though wait flag on the field, personal foul against Jefferson.. Though Falcons still have the ball. Mustangs were able to hold them from scoring, game ends final score 13-12.

Next Friday Mustangs play at home again Gilmore at our Homecoming game. Come out and cheer on the Mustangs.

*** TODAY 09/24/11 around 1 pm this after noon Thomas Propst truck was located on Fee road just south of Dodgeville in Rome Oh. A call out to 911 brought the ACSD, after reaching the vehicle they soon found a white male dead inside. As of this evening Dr. Pamela Lancaster, medical examiner for Ashtabula County, later confirmed his identity of Thomas Propst, he had committed suicide. It was reported they found several pill bottles with Propst’s body, which they believe may have been purchased in the days leading up to the killing from a nearby pharmacy. We send out condolences to the family of Paulette Propst and am so glad that you may now start to feel at ease and able to move on from this horrible event.****

The manhunt is still underway for Thomas Propst who on August 30, 2011 at 10pm entered the home of his wife Paulette Propst then shot her multiple times and killed her. Their 18 year old daughter Hannah escaped through a small bathroom window, ran to a neighbors and called 911. Aggravated murder charges were filed against Thomas on Aug 31.

Thomas does have a Military background. But as Ashtabula County Sheriff Johnson says “Whether they went to sniper school or can live off the land or whatever it creates a little bit of an issue for us. Certainly, we’re trained in our fields as well. That’s why we’re telling people they should be cautious if they see anything unusual they need to get the police notified and not them.”

Thomas Propst is believed to be driving a 1994 White Toyota pickup truck extended cap with a blueish gray pin strip that goes from the lower part of the front doors to the upper part of the truck bed. It has 2 holes in the front of the hood where a set of horns use to be. It has a bumper that has the license plate # BV3 8QG on it. It may or may not ( as it could have been removed by now) have a black cap on the truck as well.

Click the image to enlarge.

They do know that Paulette was shot with a 45 pistol, but they are unsure of other weapons that he may have on him as all of his weapons had been confiscated due to a domestic violence charge against him.

There have been rumors around that his pick up has been seen on 46 in the Cortland area. I want to let you know that is NOT his vehicle. This has been verified!

No he is NOT dead at this time, he is still alive as far as the police and the US Marshall’s office is concerned so please keep your eyes open for this man. If you see him DO NOT approach him, CALL 911. Though be sure to try and see the direction he goes, a vehicle he is in, a license plate # if it is not the white Toyota. AGAIN I repeat DO NOT APPROACH him he is considered ARMED and DANGEROUS!! Call 911!

I know that a lot of people in the community are upset as the police are not offering updates. Please keep in mind that no one knows where Thomas is or who is may be in contact with. If they offer information and post it somewhere and it gets back to Thomas it could jeopardize them finding him. If you hear something you want to confirm if it is true please let us know and we can get it confirmed for you and hope to stop some of the rumors. BUT if you do see him call 911, don’t want!

Also please help Hannah by attending the benefit dinner for her on Oct 1, more information is on our site for her dinner. Please share the links.

We will post more updates Below:

Download the New Wanted Poster-CLICK HERE

UPDATES:

09/13/11: The manhunt for Thomas Propst still continues. There have been numerous tips being called into the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s department and every tip has been checked into and at this time none of the tips have lead them to Thomas. It had been rumored that they have found him and that the military is out searching for him in the area. At this time he has NOT been found and the military is NOT out searching for him. They do have Swat out in BDU’s canvasing different areas in hope of finding him. The Sheriff’s department is asking for everyone to please keep their eyes open. If you see something please call 911. Please don’t hesitate your lead could be the one that helps to locate him. Remember to share the information with everyone. We do not know if he is in this area or another area and the more people who are aware of his manhunt the better.

09/16/11 U.S. Marshal Peter J. Elliott has released the September 2011 updated “Dangerous Dozen” list of most wanted fugitives for the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force. Thomas is on the list.

09/19/11 Word is getting out more on the Thomas Propst case and more stations are finally picking up the story and releasing more info and showing the photo more. With an interview from Brian Koerbel, Deputy U.S. Marshal, says Propst withdrew a large amount of cash just prior to killing his wife. He also loaded his pickup truckwith outdoor equipment and survival gear. He is a experienced outdoorsman with survival skills he learned in the military. He is use to traveling to the tri-state area of Ohio, PA and WV. He does have family in other states as well. He could be in any state at this this time. He is 5’9″ tall, 155 lbs, brown hair and eyes, though he has been bald for a very long time. He has had a gotee though he could have shaved it off or he could have grown a beard. He has made the Fugitive of the Week for WKYC today. They have not found him and are following up on every tip that is received. There is a cash reward for a tip that helps to find him. The US Marshal request that if you see him or have information please call 866-4Wanted or 911. He is still believed to be armed and dangerous, the police ask that you do not approach him. If you should spot his vehicle just be sure to watch the direction he is headed and call 911 and inform the police.
